Environmental protection

For us, environmental protection is an important part of our company philosophy.

Climate protection and sustainability are important goals for us. Therefore, we have already implemented extensive measures and actively invested in environmental protection.

Sustainable heating and cargo space optimization

Our heating energy is primarily provided by a wood chip boiler. This generates around 680,000 kW/h of thermal energy per year and thus saves 176.8 t of CO² that would be produced by heating with oil. The office building on Industriestrasse was connected to the wood chip heating system on Bayernstrasse via a nearly 500 m long district heating line, so that the approx. 5,500 m² can also be heated in an environmentally friendly way with wood chips and a further 26,000 l of heating oil can be saved per year. This means 67.6 t less CO² is produced.

The wood chip boiler is operated with self-produced wood chips from surplus, collected disposable pallets. This means that everything is reused and even separated metal parts, as well as pressed cardboard and used foil, are recycled. By collecting disposable pallets, we generate sufficient heat even in cold winters. The additional investment for wood chip storage, shredders, conveyor screws and wood chip heating was around €500,000.

We also accept disposable overseas pallets and, with the resulting optimization of cargo space (in extreme cases by a factor of 5), we save 250,000 truck kilometers per year. Without cargo space optimization, these would transport around 18,000 m³ of air. This results in an annual CO² saving of around 200,000 kg (based on a calculation with a factor of 1.5). The investment for grid floors was around €200,000.

In-house electricity from renewable energies

Our in-house photovoltaic systems generate around 735,000 kW/h annually, which according to the German energy mix would be associated with the production of 404,250 kg of CO². Of this amount of energy, around 300,000 kW/h are used in our own house. This means that no further expenditure is required in the form of electricity transport, stabilization and adjustment to the respective voltage level. The investment sum was around €750,000.

Reduced energy consumption through modern lighting systems

As part of the renovation, several offices were converted from outdated fluorescent tube lighting to modern LED floodlights, which not only increase the feel-good factor, but also contribute to a further improvement in the energy and thus also the CO2 balance due to their high level of efficiency.

A computer-aided lighting system was installed in the new logistics building. Almost 100 sensors record exactly which areas need how much brightness at what time. The light output is continuously adjusted so that both ergonomic and ecological needs are met. With an installed light output of over 50,000 watts, another approx. 63,000 kW/h can be saved annually. This corresponds to a further saving of 34.65 t CO². The additional investment for dimming, control and presence detectors was around €100,000.

Protective measure against flooding

When the new logistics building was built, an infiltration basin for surface water was created. This relieves the burden on sewage treatment plants and rivers during times of flooding. The investment for this was around €100,000.
